In 1990 Mailboxes Unlimited opened its first shop on 48 Par-la-ville Road in Hamilton. The company was the first to offer private mailbox rentals to local and overseas clients outside of the Government run, General Post Office. In addition to offering mailbox rentals, the company included a myriad of office services and in cooperation with leading, international courier companies became agents for FedEx, DHL and UPS.
Customers soon found the convenience of these services especially beneficial in saving time and reducing costs; residents found Mailboxes Unlimited became their “office” in Hamilton, while small businesses or those without a physical office were able to utilise the company’s services and avoid the costs associated with supporting these services inhouse. Customers receive their mail and courier packages, prepare documents, copy, fax and purchase boxes and packaging, while Mailboxes take care of all the paperwork, from customs forms to clearance and insurance forms.
In 1996 Mailboxes opened a second store in Hamilton, on 12 Church Street, filling the demand for additional mailbox rentals, outbound courier services and all of the office services offered at the head office on 48 Par-la-ville Road. Upon Federal Express’ move out of Hamilton in 2003, the two Hamilton shops became the only FedEx courier agents in Hamilton.
Specifically targeting small international moves,1997 saw the addition of a new service, Mailboxes MiniShippers. Now customers, businesses and residents alike, could look to the company to pack and ship their belongings, whether home or office, and be assured of a successful move relying on the vast experience and excellent reputation that Mailboxes Unlimited had built since 1990. Small moves were the company’s specialty, an area of business previously unfulfilled on-island. Today, renamed Mailboxes Minishippers, the company is saving their customers up to 80% on their shipping costs world-wide, while still delivering prompt and efficient service.
Riding on the success of the MiniShippers division, in 1998 Mailboxes added an inbound courier service called U.S. Express, designed expressly with residents in mind who had difficulty ordering and importing goods from the United States. The service provides clients with a private U.S. address to ship to, thus avoiding disappointment when American merchants advised they couldn’t ship outside the U.S. Plus, by consolidating clients’ individual shipments at their U.S. forwarding centre in New Jersey, clients realised substantial savings on their courier costs as well. U.S. Express presently boasts over 3,000 members and continues to grow in leaps and bounds.
The company seized an opportunity in 2003 to add one more shop. Located outside of Hamilton on Lovers Lane in Paget, the location was custom built to offer those not wishing to travel into the city a choice, offering more mailbox rentals and an outbound courier service for documents only.
MailBoxes’ continues to provide the community with choice, great rates, no lines and friendly efficient service. All three locations are very busy shops, and in spite of this, their staff remain highly regarded for their prompt action and dedicated service.
